If the above information was too brief for any of you, I suppose I'll add a little more. My name is Ashlie, just in case you missed the fun, yet mildly seizure-inducing graphics above. I'm 25 years old and I live on the far southeast side of Indianapolis, Indiana. I have lived in Indiana for most of my life and to be perfectly honest, I can't imagine living anywhere else. I enjoy experiencing all four seasons, I like the "convenience" of the midwest, and downtown Indianapolis isn't a bad city to have nearby. I've traveled quite a bit and while I've liked what I've seen, Indiana has shown me a damn good life. I live with my husband Daniel and our daughters Delanie (born 7-15-04) and Elysa (born 8-20-07) - otherwise known as Lanie and Ellie. We're also the proud owners of a Costa Rican zebra stripeknee tarantula named Consuela (or Princess Consuela Bananahammock). We bought our first house nearly two years ago, so I'm still somewhat adjusting to the reality of that. We're not rich, but we're happier than most can even imagine. Daniel is my soulmate and my middle school sweetheart. You can learn more about Daniel and his life before me here. While a small part of me is still surprised that we ended up together, the rest is completely incapable of seeing myself married to anyone else. Learn more about our relationship together here. Our girls are our little munchkins and to put it short, our life. I could go on and on about how I feel about my daughters, but I'll spare everyone the mushy details. You can learn more about Delanie, her creation, and her birth here. You can learn more about Elysa, her creation, and her birth here.

My life has been one that most kids dream of. My parents are amazing. They're still married, as rare as that is these days, and they've always put me first. I'm an only child, but not by choice. My parents wanted more kids, but my mother had six miscarriages after me. Not having brothers and sisters is definitely one of the things I feel like I missed out on, and I'm pleased to say that Delanie won't be missing out on that experience as I did. My dad is an Indiana native and my mom is a Brit. All of her family still lives in England and I have gone over there MANY times to visit. While my parents gave me a wonderful life, I took a few turns when I got out on my own. During my sophomore year of college, I developed an eating disorder. There was a lot leading up to it, but there was even more that resulted from it. I ended up losing what control I had of my life and fell into a deep depression, interrupted occasionally by a day or two of mania, which often involved binge drinking, promiscuity, and general reckless behavior. I eventually started cutting myself and was removed from school and taken to a mental health facility. I reluctantly sought treatment and later found out that I suffer from the symptoms of bipolar disorder, a mental illness that is not typically diagnosed until later in life. I now take daily medication for a disturbingly real chemical imbalance in my brain and my moods are now much more stable. Since getting the proper medical attention, my outlook on life has become better than I ever expected. The only reason I mention this is that I credit much of who I am now to what I have dealt with in my past.

I am now living as a proud and dedicated stay-at-home mom, albeit quite the non-traditional one, and I feel very fortunate to be able to give myself to my daughters, 24 hours a day. Parenting and educating them is a full-time job that certainly comes with its share of difficulties and frustrations, but it's well worth it and, in my opinion, the best job in the world. We don't drive around new cars and sometimes money is tight, but I hold parenting as a much higher priority than anything material. This is not to say that I look down on parents who do work, because I know that in a lot of cases, it's just not feasible for one parent to remain at home full-time. Hell, even if finances aren't a concern and a parent wants to work as a personal choice, that's fine by me. I may not agree with your choice, but you're entitled to it just the same.

While being a mom is a full-time job and does encompass a lot of who I am, it's not ALL that I am. I still make time for myself, partially because I have an incredibly supportive husband who enjoys parenting as much as I do. He'll take over completely when I need some "me" time. This "me" time includes but is not limited to taking bubble baths, going to concerts, spending time with friends, taking mini-road trips, shopping, and just quiet time that will allow me to read, write, or enjoy some mind-numbing television. I also make a point of educating myself, whether it be about the various aspects of parenting, one of my many areas of interest (religion, politics, criminal justice, social services, music, etc.), or just keeping myself up-to-date in regards to local, national, and world events. I may be a stay-at-home mom, but I certainly don't live in a world that only revolves around potty breaks, snack time, and kissing boo-boos. I'm intelligent and aware. If you would like to know where I stand politically, go here. If you would like to learn about my religious beliefs, go here. To see the list of books I read in 2007 and so far in 2008, go here.

As far as my future goes, I've found it best not to even attempt to predict what lies ahead of me. Having faced many obstacles and bends in the road before, I can only guess what kinds of changes are bound to happen in my life. Here is what I know: I want to buy a house (completed); I want to have at least one more child (completed); I want to finish school, since I only have one more year to go. I don't have a timeline of when I'd like to complete these goals, they're just things that I am going to make happen eventually. Life throws you curve balls and you have to be ready to knock them out of the park. I suck at baseball, but I'm getting better at life.

Song lyrics I have stapled to my heart:
"Love is like a wave: It comes, crashes, and comes back again." ~ John Mayer

"To walk within the lines would make my life so boring. I want to know that I have been to the extreme, so knock me off my feet." ~ Avril Lavigne

"Twist and turn me inside out, show me what bliss is about." ~ Katy Rose

"See, you and me have a better time than most can dream, have it better than the best. And so can pull on through whatever tears at us, whatever holds us down." ~ Dave Matthews Band

"I'm trying to remember why I was afraid to be myself and let the covers fall away. I guess I never had someone like you to help me, to help me fit in my skin." ~ Avril Lavigne
